The project “The song kept us going” aims to digitalize the archives of the Sombor Singing Society and renovate the office where the archives will be kept. This project aims to develop, restore and protect spiritual and cultural values.
In cooperation with the crowdfunding platform GOOD BEAVER (DOBRI DABAR), we are launching a fundraiser for the project “The song kept us going”.
The Fundraising officially begins on in the middle of September, 2022. and will last a total of 45 days.
In the course of the project, a series of creative programmes will take place. All funds collected from the realized programmes will be paid to the account of Dobri Dabar.
How did the problem arise?
The problem arose due to the lack of finances to maintain the building of the Sombor Singing Society, as well as to store and preserve archival materials and other valuable items that represent cultural property of general interest and are of permanent importance for science, art and culture. The room where the archive is currently stored does not meet satisfactory conditions for preservation and safe storage, and therefore it needs urgent adaptation.
Why are we launching the project?
Digitalizing archival material and documentary material ensures the permanent preservation of archival material in electronic form and prevents its further deterioration. Our goals are to carefully preserve archival material, and then present it to the public.
How are we going to accomplish the project?
Scanning and a series of procedures that fall under the digitization of materials are going to be performed by a person with disabilities who has already undergone training at the Karlo Bijelicki City Library. Alongside with the digitization of the archival materials, over a three months period, we will also be focusing on the renovation of the SPD office where the materials are going to be stored.

What do we plan after the realization of the project?
After the realization of the project, visits to the Singing Society are planned and organized with a multilingual presentation of the history. We believe that by implementing this project, we are making a fundamental step towards establishing a common culture of memory in which the life of the ‘past’ that we strive to preserve would be reflected. We want to convey a sense of belonging, orientation and identification of the local community with ‘hidden’ but accessible cultural values.
